In the twenty-second episode of season one of The Cosby Show titled “Slumber Party,” viewers are introduced to the Huxtable girls’ friends as they spend a night over at their home.

The Huxtable family is setting up for their 13-year-old daughter Denise’s slumber party, which is the first one that she has had since they moved to their current home. Despite the excitement, her parents, Cliff and Clair, are apprehensive about leaving the girls home alone all night.

When the girls start to arrive, viewers are introduced to each one individually.

There’s Margaret, a sophisticated girl who dresses beyond her years and takes a liking to Theo, the Huxtable’s son. Then there’s Beth Ann, a tomboy who brings her pet iguana to the party, which scares some of the other girls.

Sarah and her twin sister Babette also arrive, and it becomes clear that they are not as close as one may think. Finally, there is Janeen, who has a tendency to get very loud and obnoxious.

While the girls settle into their sleeping bags, Cliff and Clair are getting ready for their own night out.
